New computer - Win2000 or WinXP?

    Customizing S/W 2003 interface

Just how big is you monitor(s)? Like SBaugh stated, you are missing a LOT of improvements to stick with an old interface. Everytime somebody changes the interface of anything, they get hate mail, email, phone calls, etc. I think AutoCAD DOS versions were cool. Why did they chnage to Windows...

    PhotoWorks 2 Add-in Problems, NT

It appears like you are using NT4.0? If so, you do have service pack 6 on there too right? And the Virus checker wasn't running right? I didn't use the CD that SW sent, as I did it the old published way of putting the PW stuff on there, and then doing the SW sp update. Worked for me. Mr. Pickles

    Crashing Solidworks

Nvidia's are the best for SolidWorks, and others too. And you are correct in your assumption of SW loving the Nvidia Quadro chipset. They do OpenGL better than anyone it seems. If you are buying a new card, make it a Nvidia Quadro 4 something. You'll be happier down the road... Mr. Pickles

    e-drawings file extension issue

DrGonzo, Are you using Win XP and saving the files as the default extension (ie: NOT and EXE or EX_)? If so, you ought to be able to right-click the file in the Windows Explorer, and choose "Open With..." (NOTE: If "Open With" has a fly-out arrow, fly it out and choose...

Evaluating changing to a new Cad Products! Which one is better?

Pat, Like the others, I think you are in for a long trial period of reading and what not. I used to sell and support AutoCrap and, thus Mechanical Etch-A-Sketch, err I mean Desktop. back then, it was not a very robust product. That is not the case anymore. The problem in my opinion with MDT and...

Solidworks 2001Plus to Solidworks 2003 Upgrade

Everybody with SW 2003 has gone through it, more than likely. You DON'T want to make the jump DURING a major project. You DO want to make BACKUP's of ALL your SW part, assembly, drawing files, since the switch WILL make the files no-readable with 2001, in case you need to go back. We didn't...

transparency in part vs in assembly

Yogibear, In your Assembly, under "Options/Document Properties", you can set the Assembly Color. In the Color section, there is 2 choices. One is the shaded color, which in your case is Black. Change it to something pleasing. Want it to do it all the time, change the setting in your...

transparency in part vs in assembly

Yogibear, I made one face transparent in a part, and when I opened the assembly with that part in it, the part has a transparent face. I think this is what you are trying to do, and if so, then there is a setting. I'll look for it. I'm using 2003sp2.1 by the way... Mr. Pickles

    Desktop PC or Workstation?

My 8 cents worth. ATA Ultra 100 HD's win out over SCSI for User's boxes. SCSI is good for a big old server, thus the IT guys like them 'cause they use them, but the new IDE's are pretty darn fast and it isn't like your going to "see" the difference, unless you got a huge assembly and...
