I am finally back at work (after a trip overseas) so are my questions:

Does anyone know a good book for GDTP 2009 preparation exam run by ASME (questions to test your accumulated knowledge after reading and understanding - hopefully — the standard itself) ?

Robert H. Nickolaisen has an excellent book with Q&A’s for 1994 edition of ASME (Study Guide for Certification of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals (GDTP) , but I am looking for an “equivalent” (same as good as) book for the 2009 version of ASME Y14.5.
Any good sugestions that you are aware of?
I heard Mr James Meadows has a book with questions, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Any other good suggestions (except the standard itself which does not have Q&A’s)?
I’ve been asked this question many times during my trip to PRC.

greenimi,

I think the one you're referring to by James D Meadows is this one ( right? Note that theres a question book (ISBN: 978-0-615-36104-8) and answer book (ISBN: 978-0-615-36101-1).

Looks like one of the more comprehensive ones I could find for the 2009 standard. Note that it says it has questions for both the 1994 and 2009 - I actually emailed him and asked him and this was his response "The testing booklet consists of 85 pages of questions. 61 of those pages apply to both the 1994 and the 2009 Y14.5 standards. The remaining pages deal with topics only in the 2009 standard." I have not pulled the trigger and bought it yet, but as far as the options go out there it looks like one of the better ones. Theres also a full testing kit for $576 with 10 booklets - a bit rich for my blood but its probably a ton of questions.

I'm interested to see what else anyone knows of, thats really one of the few ones I could find. I should say I'm not affiliated with James Meadows at all, financially or otherwise - I can remove the links/ISBN references if this post is misconstrued as promoting those materials, just trying to provide some answers to greenimi's question.

This post sparked my interest in me recertifying to 2009 - I have a 1994 certificate from 1999. I understand from other posts that the "latest" edition of Y14.5 may be issued "soon". So, does anyone have any inside info if this is finally going to happen? I will most likely wait for the recertification program for the "latest" edition.

So, according to ASME's own website the new standard should be available February 21st or so......
Probably, the test in the next few years....2020 or beyond

Thanks much. Yeah, it took almost 7 years for the 2009 test to be offered.

greenimi,

I am assuming that you are prepping for the 2009 senior level test.

Please let me know, after you take the test, if you felt that studying anything beyond the 2009 standard itself was necessary. I am planning on taking the 2009 senior test in the Summer of 2020. I only studied the standard before taking the 2009 technician level test and I felt that it totally prepared me.

Thank you.

Seems to me that ASME has pretty clearly stated that the exam is on the specification more than anything, so it's my guess that studying the spec is enough. Good question though and I'd like to know as well.
