    Learning SolidWorks........

I agree completely with TheTick. I would say after three weeks you should get the hang of it and know where are the features you need and really get to a decent speed. Before that there's some exploration needed to understand the advanced features. Patrick

    Migrating to SolidWorks, questions

Before comparing performance between the native file in their respective software and the same assembly exported and imported into another software, I would try importing the same file in Catia also and then comparing performances because it's really not the same working with native files versus...

    Career suggestion

CWB1 is spot on! Where I am, we use the internship as a way to get/select the best talent right out of university and mold them the way we work. If it doesn't work then after 3 months we start over. If we like him/her and it's mutual then we offer him/her a job. Also the masters degree without...

Looks like they finally pulled the plug!

Yep! Unfortunately all good things come to an end. thread1480-452901 Patrick

    Parent/Child options within Draftsight?

In AutoCad it was called Xref if my memory serves me well. In Draftsight it's only Reference. I'm pretty sure this is what you are looking for.

    Block replace

Hi! Is it possible to replace a block? The only way I've been able to do it is to insert the new block over the other and deleting the old one. Thanks, Patrick

    3d model

Hi! Do you already have multiple bodies? If so you can use the command to save those bodies. If not you use the divide command and then you can save the bodies. Patrick

    SolidWorks xDesign pricing?

My Var told me pretty much the same information as Scott mentionned. Early visibility for now. Will be a separate product and not part of a SolidWorks bundle.

    SolidWorks xDesign pricing?

Hi Scott I like the use of the word ransomware for this. At the same time they are not so far from it with the way maintenance works for SW. But still I prefer having the files on my local hard drive instead of somewhere in the cloud where I can't know if I'm really the only one having access...

    SolidWorks xDesign pricing?

Hi! I don't know when Dassault Systèmes went live with their xDesign cad modeler in a browser but I received a link to try it out. Before going into much details about how useful or not this could be I wanted to know more about who is the targeted user base. Is it included with a SW licence...

Why do people email instead of chatting face-to-face?

May it be a language problem? My primary language is French and I can be uncomfortable having a live discussion in English. The chat and email gives me some time to understand better what is said and also write a proper response so I will be less afraid of the awkward situation of searching for...

    From CAD to purchasing

Thanks all for your input. I'll will start by listing exactly what I need and what I would like to improve then prioritize and see what I can accomplish and how. From your suggestions I will make a BOM in SW that format all the important information and see how I can import that into our...

    From CAD to purchasing

Hi Handleman. That's the kind of story I'm interested in. I don't know how to code so this tasks seems very difficult to me but if you can tell me a little bit more how you did it, I should be able to find somebody who could write the code for me. For now I don't really know what's possible...

    From CAD to purchasing

Yeah I know it's a large topic! I'm would think I can find some sort of beautiful way of exporting a bom from SW that could be taken easily into my purchasing software but I wonder If that would be enough and if I would not be better to spend my energy on something else. At the same time I've...

    From CAD to purchasing

Hi! We are a small company with 30 employees, including 3 full time cad user (SW) and 8 part time for using a total of 7 floating licenses. We have a custom made system used to purchase everything we need for our projects. Unfortunately we did not invest time yet to develop some kind of bridge...

    Question on laptop configuration

Hi lonsgsp! Sorry to hear that they didn't listen the first tiime. The good side of this is now your going to get a good workstation class machine and some credibility ;) Please come back to give some feedback after you had the new machine for a couple of weeks. Cheers Patrick

    Modifying STEP files....

While importing you have the option to run import diagnostic and create bodies. Make sure those options are selected. As other mentionned, sometimes SW is unable to create the body so it's only a bunch of surfaces. If you have the time you can close the gaps to have the geometry be "water tight"...

    Learning advanced techniques in Solidworks?

That's the kind of service you should get from your VAR, they must be able to send you a qualified instructor for as long as you need! Of course you'll have to pay his time but the benefits would be that he will customize the formation to your needs. Maybe you can get them to do it remotely if...

    Question on laptop configuration

One of the reasons why the precision line from Dell cost more is because they spend a lot of time testing and approving drivers for professionnal software such as SolidWorks! Also the hardware is carefully selected for stability. It always seems overpriced! the way I see it, is how much do you...

Workstation build for SolidWorks, where to put the $$$

I would think you can find a fair compromise with the new Xeon line, Between the W-2125, W-2135, W-2145 and the W-2195 they have different clock speed, number of cores, number of threads and obviously different price tags but they all offer a turbo boost around 4.3 and 4.5 ghz and that's the max...
