Cut Lists properties and Smart Fasteners Question

Just for the second issues: In your HoleWizard holes, do you use though all correclty instead of blind with a huge value for the last hole? Smart Fastners also work better if you do your holes as long series, this is, in context of the assembly instead on doing in on the part level. Daniel

    Smart Components & Mates

Have you checked the option where the Smart Component adjust if the part is moved? Don't know why it's there in the the first palce but might be your issue!? It's a checkbox on the Insert smart feature command Daniel

    custom cavity insertion

alanled, Have you looked in to the new Smart Components that 2006 offers? If you model a part as beeing the other part cavity you can use it. Just drag'n'drop and select the components that will be affected by the "cavity" part. Try it. Daniel

    Questions from a potential buyer......

Sirius, You mention on point 3 the need for progressive dies. SolidWorks has to add-ins called LogoPress and 3DQuickPress. The last one is surely the best (non-SW) add-in. When definig the strip, you're not using real geometry but, the part is transformed into a open-gl object. That gives you...

    How to stop Task Scheduler?

I understand it may seem annoying if we run TScheduler on regular working hours, but the opening and closing of SW has two purposes: to avoid irregular updates of similar files in different folders and to close the process if needed. Check that there is a period of time you can configure to kill...

Equation driven configurations in an assembly

Just to answer the last issue of your post, you can control for which configuration you want to apply a certain equation. For each of equation you can create a config., and define which equation will be evaluated in each config. It's all about flexibility. It's better for the software to have...

    Left hand thread

Arcticcatmatt, is right. The symbol for LH thread on 2D is the 3/4 circle around the hole but mirrored (the open segment comes in the 3rd quadrant). Altough not quite often, trapezoidal, circular and multi fillet thread lack destinctive representation. Daniel Pegas

    Phantom Images in RealView Mode?

I recognize this shouldn't be a issue to waste more time, but I've looking further an with other materials, like Acrylic... the phantom image is a Daytona Car?? Come on...If the idea is to get marketing/design advantage so let us change this image. Solidmold

    Phantom Images in RealView Mode?

A neat challenge for RealView users Try this: 1. Create a part and construct a plain rectangular extrude. 2. Apply a PP Copolymer material and activate RealView. Other plastics like ABS or POM also work. You should see a "phantom" image of a warehouse. Well I see it on my laptop, a DELL M70...

    SW06 slot creation

The quickest way I can imagine is using the Wrap Feature. Simply create a closed sketch. Then apply a deboss wrap feature on the cilindrical face. You get your rounded cut done. If it's not cilindrical or conical use this procedure: Sketch the slot. Curve>Split in one direction. Surfce-Offset (...

    Property for toolbox part number

Altough not well documented inside help, there's a neat feature for toolbox custom properties. You can add custom properties to a Toolbox part and even create a drop-down list when adding the component to a assembly. Imagine you use some certain screw standard a lot. But the position where you...

    Material Properties

Damnsam, you can check the wall thickness with SolidWorks Utilities. You enter a target thickness and you'll get a nicely gradient painted part from min to max thickness. When passing with the cursor over the part you get the thickness on that point. Check it out! If you don't have Office, I...

Multiple dimensions in 1 line of text

Adrian2 If your model is to be used very often, maybe you get more productivity in generating properties linked to dimension and parameters, like the diameters and pattern instances. These are then reused as a note composed of the desired properties on your 2D view. Again, does make sense If...

    Merging Toolbox Configs?

I receive several machines with toolbox components from other Sw users. Since I continue to work on them I was trying to found out a way to add those external toolbox parts into my own Toolbox. I don't want to copy them since I use configs for other machines that the external files don't have...

Weldments - Cut List Properties - Defaults?

brrian, There's another trick. You can add as many properties you like into the weldment profile. You may want to add Coating Color, Cost per unit, Material among other properties. If they exist in the profile, the cut-list will be populated with these properties. Daniel

    Equations in Assemblies

Drhinehart, Another tip. When working with equations in assemblies, that refer to multiple part, it's always more consitent to rename files using SolidWorksExplorer. Daniel

Can I make a Solidworks part to 3d DXF? Want to take it into RISA.

Yes you can export to DXF, but not direct though. Export as Acis and reimport it in DWG Editor. There you can export to 3D DXF. If you only want curves you wont be able to export then in ACIS since DWG Editor don't support them, but you can extract curves from face edges. Daniel Pegas

New material - defining physical properties

Those codes you're refering come from Cosmos products, which define the variable for each mechanical property. If you want to run cosmosXpress you'll nedd the yield strenght and the elastic modulus. Issue is, that the default SW materials (for plastics and other materials) are incomplete to run...

How usefull are SW training manuals?

As a SW tech support and training guy I notice that lot of trainees dislike the more advance classes. They say it's to much command/feature oriented and it doesn't give much strategies when dealing with machine design. Some optinions? What would a user prefer? Industry related training? Ideas...

Creating Weldments Features from Design Tabled Parts

Since SW Weldments have very few features and do not support configurations, I was trying to create some way of defining a library feature file with design tables and then convert all configs into separated LFP files. The problem is that weldments features do not support properties...
