They built this bridge in Dallas, and the huge arches are mainly ornamental, so far as I know. I mean, it doesn't require a clear span below or anything, they could put piers every 10' if they cared to:

Anyway, I ponder that either they strung all those wires up there specifically to keep small planes from flying through. Or somebody sometime will try to fly a plane through and not see those wires until it's too late.

That Dallas bridge it looks like it holds up a separate foot/cycle bridge. But it does look fairly ornamental.

It reminded me of the big hipe in roundabout dogs a couple of years ago after Lars Vilks drawing of Muhammed as a roundabout dog.

They turned up in all sizes and shapes all over, and the opinion of them was equally as many, traffic hazard, or just great fun.
