maybe a change in climate? ...time to pay the piper?

That's why they call it climate change now instead of global warming. That way humans can be blamed for every kind of weather. It requires a certain degree of cognitive dissonance, but it's expedient.

As a bit of a hint, we're largely responsible for it.

Which 'it'? Cold weather in China? Snowless weather in North America? Deeper snow than usual in California? Cold winter in Germany? Warm weather on the Alps?

Gosh

...just a WAG, but there might be a correlation...

Yes, you've already posted these images. You have failed to explain how ice core samples can record higher CO2 concentrations if high CO2 prevents ice formation. Notice the steep slope followed by flat peaks. This indicates "clipping" of the measurements.

The top chart shows it all... since about 1940, things are heating up. CO[sub]2[/sub] may reduce ice formation, not prevent it in small proportions. We are talking about current CO2 levels being noticably greater but still only at over 400 ppm, as shown in the last chart. I'm eagerly awaiting for the new 'ShowYourStrips' barcode to come out showing 2023... we'll see if there is any change that may portend future barcodes.

I suggest you do some research on the Laurentide and Cordilleran ice sheets. These were over a mile thick in parts of the northern USA and Canada. Ice formation has certainly not kept up with prevention resulting in reduction.

I repeat, if ice is decreasing during natural periods of warming/high CO2, how is CO2 being stored in ice during those periods for future sampling?

I suspect in bubbles in the ice, I'm not sure how it is stored... a possible method; it explains a lot. There may be others...

and from part of the discussion:

"I saw a report on 400,000 years of Vostok ice cores. They had a graph that also showed CO2. It amazed me that despite what their own graph showed (that higher CO2 FOLLOWED warming) they keep saying that warmer follows CO2.

This is a common story spread by climate change deniers and their paid staff.

What you need to do is stop and read some of the science.

Of course the deniers will then tell you that every one of the hundreds of science academies and organizations as well as so many tens of thousands of scientists and researchers are ALL in a massive conspiracy.

I will leave it up to you to decide if it’s possible that the warming set off an increase in CO2 that then “to use a terrible mixed metaphor” “Snowballed 😉

Or if it’s more likely that 97% of the world’s scientists are all in a secret conspiracy". There's additional discussion on ice cores in the discussion part by Peter Neff, "I’m an ice core scientist currently working on my PhD, and have helped Bethan a bit with the content on this page. I’d be happy to try and answer these questions."

I have no idea of what causes the 'little hiccups'... in the great scheme of things, these perturbations have little effect, other than act as a red herring. The general trend is that they are increasing.

Not at all... like CO[sub]2[/sub], it will be addressed. It's all part of the journey.

Who is he targeting with the story? His followers have fully bought in, hook line and sinker and he insults anybody else that may need to read the story. It's hilarious that he complains about "paid staff". Isn't that what he is?

He's informing the ignorant... in the classic sense of ignorant.

Well, there is only one person who has been informed by his writings here. No climate denier is going to read that.

Imagine calling Einstein a gravity denier. They didn't deny the existence of gravity, he just had a different opinion of the cause.

Climate deniers are likely blissful... [pipe]

I think it's interesting that dik posts references to the facts (that in the Vostok ice cores, the progression of warming followed by higher CO2 levels is clear), then proceeds to quote speculation of how the facts don't matter. After that, he quotes the "97% of scientist agree" myth (the 97% figure was a wholly bogus statistic of the percentage of published scientific papers on the subject, the bulk of which were written by a handful of prolific government-funded 'scientists').

Also, buried in the NewScientist article is that if we are successful in stopping global warming, we may trigger the beginning of the next ice age.
