    Winding configuration question

Hello Gents Redsnake, there is a three lead set for supply but one wire not used (not my design) good observation though. Edison, this particular Drive pulls paper off of a web roll so while motor is idle the brake keeps tension on paper. Bill, I have installed a lot of motors this should have...

    Winding configuration question

Hello Gents, Single phase, no vfd, no capacitor, no data for HP attached is pic of data plate the portion shown is for cooling fan motor. Chuck

    Winding configuration question

Hello Folks We let the smoke out of a 230V Drive cooling fan motor, one leg is neutral the other 230VAC for a Heidelberg printing press . Sent it out for rewinding and it came back looking really nice however when I energized it, no joy! It just hummed and I felt resistance while nudging it in...

Running a VFD controlled motor with lower than rated Voltage setting

Hello Jeff But Jeff is doing this something that when the machine jams it just stops while drive remains energized casing an unsafe condition for operators? Chuck

HV motor running with low insulation

I agree with Panter and think the test voltage is too low, Here is a link I found with recommendations on page 6. http://www.techni-tool.com/site/ARTICLE_LIBRARY/Megger%20-%20The%20Complete%20Guide%20to%20Electrical%20Insulation%20Testing.pdf Chuck

    Rebar Unentanglement

My guess is you can perform that operation with a continuous rotating disc having an arm offset from center so there might not be a need to reverse motor. Chuck

Fuses for circuit powered by VFD DC bus

You could try the various industrial supply sites, I use McMaster-carr and grainger. https://www.mcmaster.com/fuses Chuck

Volt Free Contacts /Dry Type Contacts/ Potential Free Contacts in Numerical Relay

Here is a good picture of typical Mercury switch, Link I kind of miss these thermostats as compared to the programmable ones which complicate things in an office filled with woman in their forties. Chuck

    commutation problem

Yes yes!,I agree with that, My first thoughts were based on my experience with an identical old motor we had, the brushes appear low to me and I think with age those clock springs weaken causing bounce although the OP did say brush pressures were ok. Motor is very clean and appears to have been...

    1000KVA Rotor Winding IR Test

Sounds to me like you have a problem, I would second guess myself as well. I would recheck the Megger on a known good winding different motor or simply leave the leads open and check for infinity. Try a simple ohm test see if you get a reading. Still in doubt borrow a Megger from a local sparky...

18 MW synchronous motor - thyristor triggering problems

I wish I was half as intelligent as you are Sir, really enjoy your post. Chuck

18 MW synchronous motor - thyristor triggering problems

Hello Gunnar Yes a little post partum posting, after searching and reading on line I decided to pull the post. "Remain silent and be thought a fool, open your mouth and remove all doubt" Thank you for the clarification on that. Chuck

Trying to understand why a DC motor feels this way.

I have also Bill, odds are the failure would be on load side of motor and that would be felt with the wiggle meter on shaft. I found the dang magnet would float on top of rotor when free and catch at various points with each turn. I have tried to re-epoxy one once but the opposing forces were...

Trying to understand why a DC motor feels this way.

I agree with John, the glue on one of the magnets came loose. It's toast Keith. Chuck

    DC injection questions.

Hi Keith, Could you post the results of your findings on this. We have the same Drive on a printing press which is giving us occasional intermittent errors on estop and I would be interested to see what you come up with. Chuck

Ideas about the noise source causing this.

Hiya Keith Dumb question guy here, hope you're feeling better. You have ~1.2V pp and I know that is acceptable for a resolver I think. My question is with that small amount of voltage are you getting enough current to drive the resolver? Chuck

    VFDs gone wild.

Phase rotation or grounding is all I can think of since it works elsewhere. I bet when you do an on site visit, you say Ah ha! Chuck

    Cooling distilled water from generator

That is an interesting question, Our printing press uses what is called RO water which has the minerals removed and because of this, the whole system needs to be stainless steel. Otherwise the water wants to replace the missing minerals and erodes standard piping metal as a result. Will watch...

    Single phase 1/8HP motor wiring

Well since you checked and ruled out those possibilities my call would be to say you have failed winding's, without a meggar test @ 500v it's difficult to know for sure. Separating/running stator leads out for testing is difficult. Depending on mounting of motor to gear box acquiring the same...
