Multi Single Segment Profiles in 1994

Unless I am missing it, multi single segment profiles are not mentioned in 1994. Supplemental books of 1994 standard do discuss it, but they are but clear to me. I need to understand refinement of upper segment edge profiles. I think for both composite and multi single segment profiles it is clear the upper segment controls location. Again, I need to understand the difference of the two types of the refinements of the upper segments by the lower segments. Per 1994, section 6.5.9.1, the lower segment for composite profiles controls size, form and orientation(not location). For a multi single segment profile, the lower segment controls location, size, form, orientation. I also understand that the 1994 standard does not allow more than 2 frames in the composite profile case, but 2009 does. I say this because the spec refers to "both" segments in that same paragraph. Why is it not addressed?

Having "multi-single-segment profile" is no different from having several independent single-segment profiles, and in that sense none of them is "upper" or "lower".

Which is the reason for creating composite profile.

Checker Hater. I was mistaken in that statement and stand corrected. It is still two segment in 2009. I am not as familiar with 2009 as I use 1994. I am learning 2009 and appreciate that correction. )I thought I had seen it in one of my reference text books). If you please, and just so I am clear in my interpretation: A difference or ONE difference between composite and multi single segment is that the lower segment does control location to the datums referenced for MSS, where as for Composite the lower segment does not control location to the datums referenced. The intended question was not asked correctly. Thanks to you pmarc and CheckerHater for your time.

The lower segment of MSS does indeed control location to the datums referenced, provided that there is a locational relationship to control.
The lower tier of composite FCF (whether profile or position) never controls location to the datums referenced in that tier.
