That will change as BRICS gets going. Until now, the African countries have been exploited by the West and the people living in poverty. Many of the Western African countries have had tons of gold extracted without the people benefiting. This will change with the Chinese Belt and Roads Initiative. Just a matter of a little time.

This statement destroys anything you had that resembled credibility. You are clearing nothing but an anti-west ideolog.

China:
1) Suppresses speech of all citizens. Anyone who speaks out in any way against dear leader goes missing the next day. Most forms of communication we use are banned in china as they aren't able to crack down on their people the way they would want.
2) Went to people's houses and welded the doors shut during covid, forcing people at literal gun-point to stay inside. You do as dear leader says, or you pay with your life.
3) Slave labor/internment camps. If you think the US is evil because there was slavery when it was founded, but you turn a bling eye to china using slaves TO THIS DAY, you are clearly doing so for ideological reasons.
4) child labor/working conditions. There are factories full of small children working harder than most adults have to here. But that's fine with you apparently. And working conditions are so bad that workers would jump out of factory windows to end it all. You know what they did? Make working conditions better perhaps? Nope, they puts nets around the building that catch you, so then they can put you back to work. You can't even end yourself there.
5) environmental issues. For someone who is so uptight about the climate, this should matter to you. China is the largest emitter of CO2 BY FAR. It's not even close. And while the US is lowering the annual CO2 output, china is building 50 new coal power plants as we speak. That doesn't even include there shear disregard for safe chemical and waste disposal practices. They dump whatever they want, wherever they want, and they don't care who it hurts. In large US cities, if you go way up in an airplane you can sometimes see the smog. In china, you literally can't see down the street because it is so much worse.

This took me exactly zero research, these are all things I can point to off the top of my head. If you think that the US and china are comparable in any way, there is no hope for you to be rational or unbiased in anything you do. Ideological sell-outs have no place in the scientific, fact based world. Shame.

Dik, I don't know if you just lost your cool over the last few days and could no longer keep it in, but I am truly embarrassed for you.

From behind my keyboard, there can be only one possible explanation for the worldview you have expressed in this thread. It's so completely nonsensical and flies in the face of so many demonstrably factual elements of other peoples arguments- both philosophical and statistical - that the only possible explanation is that it's deliberate.

I have no idea why you feel the need to completely ignore history and fact the way you do, but honestly, if you have some political motive, it's time to give it up; after two years, no one is convinced. If you have some (in your mind) altruistic motive, it's not supporting your ultimate goals, and it's also time to give it up.

I entered into this discussion much closer to your side of the argument, as there are numerous logical problems from the other side, too. But your approach has completely melted down any chance you ever had of convincing anyone of anything. I remain of the opinion that climate changes are something we need to be addressing with rapid action - but your arguments to that end are doing more damage to the cause than they're helping, by at least an order of magnitude.

To everyone else, I sincerely hope that this is enough data on Dik to prove in everyone's mind that he cannot be saved, that this entire discussion has been a complete waste of everyone's time, and that this thread should be abandoned completely so it can die on the vine and we can all move on.

For the love of god, can we please go back to being engineers again (in other areas of this forum)? If I was a mod I would lock this thread and any attempts to revive it.

Um, most of the children mining rare earths are in the Congo. Apparently Canadian history books don't mention Africa. Congo was colonised (practically privatised) by King Leopold II of Belgium. This may be news, but Belgium is not the USA, UK or France (a curious list of colonizers in itself).

These child labour practices in Africa are mostly the result of western countries in their empire building (including the US), Belgium was one of them and is considered a western country. This predated China and Russia's involvement in Africa. China is improving this with their Belts and Roads Initiative. Do some research.
